Part-Time Assistant Librarian | Youth Services

The Barrington Area Library is looking for an energetic, customer service-oriented team player to contribute to our dynamic Youth Services department. This staff member will: connect customers to the Library’s materials and services; collaborate with other staff to plan and present programs (such as technology classes and story times); and provide an amazing library experience to every customer, especially children from birth to eighth grade and their caregivers.

Requirements and Skills:
This position requires completion of a bachelor’s degree. The successful candidate will have direct experience working with children; will have service related work experience; will have a demonstrated history of: strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, digital literacy, and customer service skills.

Hours, Salary, and Benefits:
This position will be scheduled between 20-28 hours per week and includes day, evening, and weekend shifts. The salary is $18.91 per hour, and this position includes IMRF Pension Plan participation, and earns paid vacation, sick, and holiday benefits. Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to travel locally is required.

Full-Time Digital Services Specialist | Administration

Do you think like a designer? Is DIY in your DNA? The Barrington Area Library is actively recruiting a full-time Digital Services Specialist. In this position, you’ll work to stimulate imagination and foster lifelong learning with customers of all ages and skill levels, helping them explore how technology can best meet their needs. A successful candidate will:
➠ Develop and present technology and maker programs.
➠ Provide technical guidance on a variety of applications, software, and equipment such as a 3D printer, CNC machine, laser cutter, and vinyl cutter.
➠ Monitor and send jobs from the 3D print queue.
➠ Schedule 1:1 appointments with customers to resolve technology questions, especially those related to e-books, digital media production, and personal devices.
➠ Troubleshoot basic equipment repairs within the maker space, digital studios, and game rooms.

About you:
➠ You have direct experience working with maker space technologies.
➠ You can demonstrate a basic understanding of digital media creation and editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, GarageBand, iMovie, mics, cameras).
➠ You have a genuine curiosity about emerging technologies and a passion for learning new things.
➠ You excel at assisting users with a variety of technologies, such as CAD software, office productivity tools, the Internet, e-books, digital media production, and personal devices.
➠ You have the ability to create, lead, or assist with technology and maker workshops.

Hours, Salary, and Benefits:
This full-time position averages 37.5 hours per week. Hours are primarily Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 5 PM, but flexibility is required based on customer or position needs. Starting pay is $20.73 per hour. Relevant experience may be taken into salary consideration. Full-Time Librarian  |  Adult Services

The Barrington Area Library is seeking a full-time Adult Services Librarian. This team member will be instrumental in establishing and developing Community Outreach services while providing exceptional customer-centered librarianship.

A successful candidate will:
➠ cultivate partnerships with local senior living facilities;
➠ plan and deliver innovative outreach services and programming to meet the needs of our community;
➠ oversee homebound delivery services;
➠ staff service desks and provide reference and reader’s advisory services, including information on library materials, services, equipment and facilities, as well as technological devices and digital resources;
➠ serve as a person-in-charge (PIC) on a rotating basis.
